Travel Sleep Time Calculator — How It Works

Calculates the best bedtime based on your wake-up time and 90-minute sleep cycles.

How it works

  1. Enter the time you need to wake up.
  2. Choose how many 90-minute sleep cycles you want to complete (5 cycles ≈ 7.5 hours is a common target for adults).
  3. The tool subtracts the sleep cycles (plus about 15 minutes to fall asleep) from your wake-up time to suggest a bedtime.

Formula

Bedtime = Wake-up time − (Sleep cycles × 90 minutes) − 15 minutes

Example

Needing to wake up at 07:00 and aiming for 5 cycles suggests going to bed around 23:15, for about 7.5 hours of sleep.

Why this matters

Working backward from a fixed wake-up time (e.g. for school or work) to find a bedtime that aligns with full sleep cycles can help you feel more rested, even on a tight schedule.
