Snack Glycemic Load Calculator — How It Works

Calculates the glycemic load of a food from its glycemic index and carbohydrate content.

How it works

  1. Enter the food’s glycemic index (GI), a number from 0-100.
  2. Enter the grams of carbohydrate in the serving you’re eating.
  3. The tool calculates the glycemic load (GL) and classifies it as low, medium, or high.

Formula

Glycemic load = (Glycemic index × Carbs per serving) ÷ 100

Example

A food with a GI of 70 and 30 g of carbs per serving has a glycemic load of 21 — classified as high.

Notes

A glycemic load of 10 or below is considered low, 11-19 is medium, and 20 or above is high. Unlike glycemic index alone, glycemic load accounts for both how quickly a food raises blood sugar and how much of it you actually eat.
