Prime Factorization Calculator — How It Works

Every whole number greater than 1 can be written as a product of prime numbers — its prime factorization. This tool also lists every factor of the number.

How it’s calculated

Starting from the smallest prime (2), the calculator repeatedly divides the number by each prime until nothing’s left.

Example

60 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 5  (or 2² × 3 × 5)
Factors of 60: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60

Why it matters

Prime factorization is the basis for simplifying fractions, finding the greatest common divisor (GCD) and least common multiple (LCM), and is fundamental to cryptography.
