Blog CPM Calculator — How It Works
CPM (cost per mille, or cost per 1,000 impressions) tells you how much it costs to show your ad or content to 1,000 people. It’s the standard way to compare blog ad placements or sponsored posts across different budgets and audience sizes. Try the Blog CPM Calculator — instant results, no sign-up.
The formula
CPM = (Total ad spend ÷ Impressions) × 1,000
Divide your total spend by the number of impressions, then multiply by 1,000 to get the cost per thousand views.
Example
Say you spent $500 and your blog placement generated 100,000 impressions:
CPM = ($500 ÷ 100,000) × 1,000 = $5.00
That means every 1,000 impressions cost you $5 — or $0.005 per single impression.
Why CPM matters
- Budget planning — estimate how many impressions a given budget will buy.
- Benchmarking — compare blog ad placements or sponsored posts against industry averages or other channels.
- Negotiating — a lower CPM means your money reaches more people.
FAQ
What’s a “good” CPM?
It varies a lot by platform, audience, and season — there’s no universal number. Track your own CPM over time and compare it against your campaign goals rather than a fixed benchmark.
