Apartment LED Savings Calculator — How It Works

Calculates the energy cost savings from switching a light bulb to LED.

How it works

  1. Enter the wattage of your current (old) bulb.
  2. Enter the wattage of the LED replacement.
  3. Enter how many hours per day the bulb is used.
  4. Enter your electricity rate per kWh.
  5. The tool calculates the wattage difference, converts it to energy saved per day, and multiplies by your rate for daily and annual savings.

Formula

Daily savings = ((Old wattage − LED wattage) × Hours per day ÷ 1000) × Rate per kWh
Annual savings = Daily savings × 365

Example

Replacing a 60W bulb with a 9W LED, used 5 hours a day at $0.15/kWh, saves about $0.038/day — roughly $13.96/year for a single bulb.

Why this matters

A single LED swap might seem like pocket change, but multiplied across every bulb in a home or office, and over several years of bulb lifespan, the savings — and reduction in energy use — add up significantly.
